In 2017 the government decided to tear down communist apartment blocks (infamous for shoddy construction): around 4,000 buildings from the 1950s and 1960s are being replaced with modern high-rises. A politically significant infrastructure program - the pressure on construction companies is high. We witness up close the tensions at one of the largest construction sites in Moscow. We experience how a huge apartment complex pops up out of nowhere. 150 finished apartment units are to be completed in 51 days. First residents are already scheduled to move in. No time for mistakes. Only if the workers place the walls in the right order at the predefined place, the building concept will work.According to the stringent timeline, workers have three days per floor. Working in shifts around the clock is essential. While the walls are being set up, the next tradespeople - electricians and plumbers - are moving up from below. Even the smallest delay triggers a knock on effect that throws the whole project back for several days. Exact planning is essential here. The first floor has to be perfect and without mistakes, otherwise it will stretch to the top floor. Some parts cannot be stored and must be delivered just in time and immediately installed correctly.
